Galeux d’Eysines Pumpkins

We love our Galeux d’Eysines pumpkins as they are great to carve for Halloween Lanterns and great to eat!

The proper name for these wonderful pumpkins is  ‘Brode Galeux D’Eysines’ which whilst sounding so very romantic, actually translates as ’embroidered with warts from Eysines’

The depth of flesh on this variety lends itself to 3d carving and it’s warty complexion lends itself to the halloween look when being carved.

Originating from the French city of Eysines in the south west of France, the Galeux d’Eysines squash is a squat, flattened variety with only slight ribbing. The skin ripens to a pretty salmon colour. The peanut-sized swellings (“warts”) grow on the skin as it ripens.

It will weigh 10 to 25 pounds (4.5 to 12 kg) Very much favoured for it’s taste it is considered to be in the top five winter squashes for flavour. It was traditionally grown in France for use in soups and sauces and, when cooked, the sweet orange flesh has a very smooth texture.
